Professor Hubert Rutkowski made the world concert premiere of a Pleyel-branded uncovered Chopin piano (no. 13214) on Chopin's birthday, 1 March 2021.

Hubert Rutkowski's interpretations are shaped by his passion for the performance aesthetics of the old school of the 19th century. Underpinning the development of his artistic profile are the pianistic traditions of Fryderyk Chopin, Theodor Leschetizky and their heirs, such as Karol Mikuli, Moritz Rosenthal, Raul Koczalski or Artur Schnabel.

In 2007, the pianist won the International Chopin Competition in Hannover. He also received the Medalla per Unanimitat distinction at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition in Barcelona (2006). In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Berenberg-Kulturpreis in Hamburg.

The pianist is a graduate of the F. Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, in the class of prof. Anna Jastrzębska-Quinn. From 2005 to 2010, he completed postgraduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg in the class of prof. Yevgeniya Koroliova.

An important moment in the career of Hubert Rutkowski was the recording of unknown piano works by Julian Fontana, friend and pupil of F. Chopin and works by Theodor Leschetizky for the Acte Préalable label (2007, 2008). In the Chopin Year 2010, the artist made a recording of 'Pupils of Chopin' for the Naxos label. Since then, he has been actively performing in most countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the USA. He has given concerts at festivals such as Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival, Husum Klavierfestival, Ars Longa Music Festival in Moscow, Mozart Festival in Warsaw, Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles (USA), Artur Rubinstein Festival in Łódź, International Paderewski Festival in Warsaw.

The pianist performs with renowned artists and conductors such as Lilya Zilberstein, Łukasz Borowicz, Alexei Lubimov, Severin von Eckardstein, Martin Haselböck and Jamie Phillips.

In recent years, historical pianos have become Hubert Rutkowski's passion. In 2013 he recorded a CD of works by C. Debussy on Erard piano (1880), and 2018 saw the release of his album of works by F. Chopin on Pleyel piano (1847) for the Piano Classics label.

Hubert Rutkowski is the artistic director of the Chopin Festival in Hamburg, as well as initiator and director of the International Theodor Leschetizky Piano Competition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg.

In April 2010, he won a competition to become a professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, as one of the youngest professors in Germany. Since then, he has been teaching his own piano class. Since 2014, he has been the Head of the Piano Department of the same University.
